xDefiant drops Tom Clancy’s moniker, announces Insider Program

And opens up to new factions.

xDefiant is just that, dropping the Tom Clancy’s moniker that used to lead the game’s title.

It’s also done so with little fanfare; Ubisoft simply called the in-development title xDefiant in a new update without a real acknowledgement that its name had subtly changed until halfway through.

“Additionally, you’ll be introduced to Factions from games outside of the Tom Clancy universe,” the acknowledgement reads. “With these changes, the game will now be known as xDefiant.”

Ubisoft also announced the xDefiant Insider Program, one that will provide additional access to the game on both PC and console ahead of launch. If you’re interested in signing up to be a member of the program, you can do so at the link above.

XDefiant is a free-to-play arena shooter that previously had Tom Clancy’s fans upset over a tone inconsistent with the franchise. It’s planned for Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5.
