Xbox One quick tip: How to use Apple headphones with the Elite controller

Those of us who’ve tried to use Apple iPod, iPhone or iPad headphones with the Xbox One Elite wireless controller have quickly realised it doesn’t work — a nasty buzzing sound fills your ears almost instantly when you plug ’em in. Today we learned that this can be fixed.

Turns out, Apple make their headphones a little differently to the 3.5mm jack standard, so the unit’s mic and ground are swapped. You can adjust for the swap by going into the Xbox One’s Settings, then disabling “Headset Mic” and turning “Mic Monitoring” down.

This also works with new, non-Elite controllers — you basically just need a 3.5mm jack on your controller of choice.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Nick!
