Xbox 360 backwards compatibilty on Xbox One is region-free

Our friends at XboxAchievements have discovered that Xbox 360 backwards compatibility on Xbox One is region-free.

While the Xbox One is region-free, the 360 was not, meaning Australians had to play PAL-based game discs. Down the track, this news means Australians could play games that were never released here —  You Don’t Know Jack! being a great example.

For now, while the backwards compatible list is fairly small, it pretty much means that gamers can exploit region-specific titles for more achievements. Titles like Gears of War 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Borderlands have multiple, region-specific releases, so gamers can import those titles to boost their gamerscore.

Most of the currently-supported titles are a bit of a slog to play though multiple times, but hey — it’s your achievements list.
