Western Digital Xbox Series expansion cards are official, begin at $80 USD

All the rumours were true.

Western Digital Xbox Series expansion cards are now official, finally confirmed after weeks of rumours.

WD’s answer to the Xbox Series’ proprietary storage will come in two models: a 500GB card and a 1TB card.

The WD 500GB C50 card is priced at $70 USD to undercut Seagate’s current 500GB offering, which itself is priced at $80 USD. Interestingly enough, both companies’ 1TB cards are (now) priced at $150 USD, so there’s no savings to be had.

As we’ve reported in the past, while generic USB expandable storage can be used to house most Xbox games, only compatible SSD storage can play current-gen titles. That means players can store those games on their internal memory or shell out for these proprietary expansion cards. On PlayStation 5, players have choice to install myriad compatible SSD drives.

Are you in the market for a new storage solution? We’ll keep you informed when Australian details are released.
