Valve announces new mini-PC, VR headset, and controller

Meet the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller.

Valve has announced three new (or returning) pieces of hardware today: the new Steam Machine mini-PC, the VR headset Stream Frame, and the Steam Controller.

Steam Machine mini-PC

The new Steam Machine has “over six times the horsepower of Steam Deck,” according to Valve, and is meant to sit beside your TV for couch-based gameplay.

The 6″ cube will run SteamOS, and come complete with 1 gigabit Ethernet port, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, an HDMI 2.0 port, one USB-C port, and four USB-A ports. It’ll also support wifi and Bluebooth connectivity.

While pricing hasn’t been detailed as yet, the Steam Machine will come in 512GB and 2TB storage options.

Steam Frame VR headset

The new Stream Frame VR headset is described by Valve as, “a streaming first, wireless VR headset + controllers that can handle your whole Steam library.”

“Step into immersive VR, or lean back and enjoy your non-VR catalog. And it supports stand-alone play too.”

So, really, think of the headset as a Meta Quest 3 — even down to near-identical controllers — that can play your entire Steam library. Enticing…

Just like the other bits of new Steam hardware today, pricing on the Steam Frame isn’t yet available.

Steam Controller

Finally, the new Steam Controller is if you ripped the sides of a Steam Deck and smushed ’em together.

The controller has magnetic thumbsticks, high definition rumble, and grip-enabled gyro controls. It’s defining feature is, of course, a trackpad on either side of the controller.

Again, we don’t know what this fancy controller will cost as yet.

We’ll come back with Australian pricing and availability as soon as we learn more.
