...which makes sense as Ubisoft is apparently readying itself for a sale.
A new report suggests that Ubisoft’s Guillemot family and Tencent are allegedly preparing for a new venture that will take advantage of Ubisoft’s existing intellectual property (IP).
Bloomberg reports that the alleged deal would be between the Chinese-owned Tencent and the Guillemots, Ubisoft’s founding family.
“A potential deal would allow Tencent to own a stake in the venture and gain more control over some of Ubisoft’s intellectual properties, while boosting its video game business outside of China,” reads a portion of Bloomberg’s report.
This report follows rumours made back in October 2024 that suggested Tencent was planning a buyout of Ubisoft. It also follows a statement from Ubisoft itself earlier in the month, which said the company had appointed advisors to “review and pursue various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders”.
Ubisoft’s next big title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, heads to PC and consoles in mid-March.
