Ubisoft pulls out of Tokyo Game Show

"Various circumstances" have led to the decision.

Ubisoft has pulled out of Tokyo Game Show, citing “various circumstances” for the decision.

“We regret to inform our community that due to various circumstances, we have decided to cancel our appearance at Tokyo Game Show 2024, including the stream scheduled for September 26 at 3 PM. We apologize for the short notice,” reads a statement translated from Japanese, posted by the publisher’s Japanese-facing Twitter account.

Ubisoft didn’t provide specific reasoning for the decision, leading the internet to speculate. Some believe that Ubisoft has removed itself from Tokyo Game Show in the face of Japanese criticism of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Others still see this as a much larger problem, believing that Shadows is in developmental trouble and could even be delayed ahead of its November release date.

Moreover, Insider Gaming reports that Ubisoft has allegedly “canceled its press previews of Assassin’s Creed Shadows“.

“According to various sources, the Assassin’s Creed Shadows press previews were scheduled to take place next week, and the embargo date for the previews would be announced then,” the outlet reports.

Tokyo Game Show runs between 26-29 September here in Australia (and in Japan too).

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for a 15 November release on Windows PC via Ubisoft Connect and Epic Games Store alongside Mac, Amazon Luna, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5.
