Ubisoft disbands team behind Prince of Persia The Lost Crown

The devs still have their jobs, but won't be working on a sequel.

Ubisoft has confirmed that it has disbanded the development team behind Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, moving employees to different teams within the publisher.

The confirmation from Ubisoft followed a report from French YouTuber Origami in a video titled “The Lost Crown team no longer exists at Ubisoft” (as translated by yours truly).

“I’m extremely proud of our team’s work and passion at Ubisoft Montpellier to create a game that resonated with players and critics alike, and I am confident in its long-term success,” Abdelhak Elguess, Prince of Persia The Lost Crown senior producer said to Eurogamer.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is now at the end of its Post-Launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC that released in September. We are now focusing on making the game available to more players: it was recently launched on Steam, and will be available on Mac by this winter.”

Elguess also confirmed that “[m]ost of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise.”

We absolutely adored The Lost Crown, awarding it a 9.5/10 in our review.

The Lost Crown encapsulates everything an excellent Metroidvania game should while respectfully honouring the Prince of Persia IP by bringing it somewhat back to its roots,” Jay wrote at the time. “Much like the game that started it all, everyone should have a copy of Prince of Persia.”

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
