Trans representation in Hogwarts Legacy reportedly called “performative bullshit” by devs

The character is a "token... to pivot the conversation away".

Transgender representation in Hogwarts Legacy has reportedly been called “performative bullshit” and a “token” gesture by developers who worked on the title.

First, Stephanie Sterling took to Twitter to speak of an acquaintance who said the inclusion of Three Broomsticks bartender and witch Sirona Ryan was to include “a token trans NPC to pivot the conversation away from JKR [JK Rowling].”

“As a trans person, seeing all the advertisement and publicity for work that not only finances JKR, but allows her to feel justified (she uses HP‘s success to claim her views are agreed with), makes me feel quite sick,” Sterling added.

Jumping on Sterling’s tweet, You Know Gaming’s Liam Robertson added, “I was also told this. There was apparently some trans representation added after some of the initial controversy. I don’t know how it appears in the final product but one of the sources I talked to described it as ‘performative bullshit’.”

Hogwarts Legacy is out now on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5. We reviewed it here… and included an in-depth look at the horrifying legacy of Harry Potter JK Rowling’s transphobic words and actions.
