The Pokemon Quest transfer data function isn’t the cross-save you want

Update: Sadly, the Pokemon Quest transfer data feature won’t provide the Switch-to-iOS (or vice-versa) functionality fans are after.

“Please be aware that save data from the Nintendo Switch version of Pokemon Quest cannot be transferred to the mobile versions nor vice versa,” an FAQ on the Pokemon website states.

It looks like the feature will let you move from iOS device to iOS device, as an example, in the event of a handset failure. Kinda lame, eh?

Original story: Pokemon Quest cross-save functionality between Switch and mobile devices looks to be possible through its transfer data feature, admittedly in a very roundabout way.

When firing up Pokemon Quest on iOS, released today, you’ll notice a Transfer Data button in the top-right corner of the screen. That displays the screen you see above.

Said screen asks for the backup ID and backup key “you registered on your other device.” Theoretically, placing those two bits of information will allow you to pick up where you left off from your new device.

There’s a catch — your original device won’t work once you do the transfer. Moreover, you seem to be able to transfer the data back to your original device in much the same manner, though “you will be unable to move your data to any other device for a 1-day period.”

Not ideal, eh?

We don’t have our Switch in the office today, so we’ll test how this actually works in the next few hours; until then, feel free to use the comments area to let us know how (or if) this potential cross-platform feature is working for you!

Pokemon Quest is available now on Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android.
