The Alters gets free content update, including new save system, available now

Surprise!

As part of 11 Bit Studio’s first showcase, The Alters has announced, and released, a completely free content update. Perhaps best of all, a portion of that update allows for better control of saves and, in turn, an easier way to grab those Trophies or Achievements you’re missing.

The update, which is available right this very second, introduces the following new content and systems:

  • Gamer’s Den – Because even a stranded workforce of Jans needs somewhere to unwind.
  • Fully playable Card Game – Challenge your other selves to something not involving existential dread.
  • Custom Base Skins – Dress your digs the way you want.
  • Custom Spacesuit Skins – Style points matter. Even on a dying star.
  • Photo Mode – Capture your best (or worst) Jan moments.
  • Relax Mode – For when you want the story without the stress.
  • A New Save System – More control over your branching decisions.
  • A New Noir-Styled Storyline – A shadowy mystery only a Jan could solve. Or complicate. Or both.

Small misstep with AI aside, we adored The Alters for a ground-breaking, heartfelt story alongside challenging management mechanics.

“Unique, poignant, and one that will stick with you, The Alters also will win hearts with a $52 AUD price tag or availability through Xbox Game Pass,” I wrote back in June. “As a result, it’s highly recommended and needs to be played to be properly understood and enjoyed.”

The Alters is available now on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. It’s also part of Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
