Tencent acquires Back 4 Blood dev Turtle Rock

Turtle Rock will remain an independent operation.

Tencent has acquired Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock, the pair have today confirmed.

Turtle Rock will remain in its Lake Forest, California office and function as an independent operation.

“Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit,” Turtle Rock’s president Steve Goldstein said in a statement.

It’s unclear how much cash changed hands as part of the transaction.

Turtle Rock’s latest, Back 4 Blood, is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5; it’s also part of Xbox Game Pass. Read our review here.
