Take-Two confirms layoffs; Australians included in the cut

The move comes amidst "exponential growth in recent years".

Take-Two Interactive has announced it has laid off a number of employees and Stevivor has confirmed that Australian staffers have been impacted by the decision.

“We can confirm that there have been targeted reductions in our US teams, primarily in corporate operations and label publishing, which will better align our organization with our long-term priorities,” Take-Two spokesperson Alan Lewis told PC Gamer.

“We continue to make strategic investments in our talent and technology to deliver our long-term pipeline, and the impact of these changes on our US development teams has been minimal,” Lewis continued.

“Outside of the US, we have begun procedures in compliance with local law that we anticipate may result in similar reductions. Take-Two has experienced exponential growth in recent years, and we are taking these necessary steps to position the company for another extended period of success.”

Stevivor has confirmed that Australian employees at subsidiary 2K have been dismissed as a result of the changes, though it’s unclear as to how many positions have been impacted. We’ve reached out to local contacts for further comment.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that subsequent cuts were made at publisher Private Division alongside a number of other divisions.

Update: A representative from 2K in Australia has responded to Stevivor’s request for comment with the same statement issued to PC Gamer, above. The representative would not comment upon how many local jobs have been lost.

Our hearts go out to those impacted by the news — especially as Take-Two has experienced “exponential growth in recent years,” as per its own statement.
