Switch 2 will be backwards compatible, says Nintendo

Your Switch games will work on the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch games, Nintendo has today confirmed.

The confirmation comes by way of a slide show which states, “Nintendo Switch Software Will Also Be Playable on the Successor to Nintendo Switch”.

“In addition to being able to play Nintendo Switch software they currently own, consumers will be able to choose their next purchase from a broad selection of titles released for Nintendo Switch,” reads a further talking point.

We don’t a lot of official details of the Switch 2 at present; Nintendo’s next console is now expected to be revealed and available in 2025.

“Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch I explained today, will be announced at a later date,” Nintendo said as part of the presentation.

We’ll have more on the Nintendo Switch 2 when it becomes available.
