Switch 2 22.0.0 update lets you play Switch games in boosted mode

And with that, a couple hiccups.

The Switch 2 22.0.0 update is out now, and brings with it the ability to play original Switch games in boosted mode on the newer console.

Boosted mode will essentially let you play original Switch games in handheld mode, but as if the game itself is running in docked mode. That means you’ll have power power behind the game, generally resulting in increased resolution and fidelity. The trade off here is that you’ll likely drain your Switch 2’s battery a bit faster, and you’ll lose in-game functionality like touch controls (because, remember, the game thinks it’s basically running in docked mode).

“Handheld Mode Boost will cause compatible Switch software to run as if in TV Mode, so certain functionality may be affected,” Nintendo said of the new functionality. “Please see the on-device description for more details.”

To turn on boost mode, head to Settings > System > Nintendo Switch Software Handling and then enable Handheld Mode Boost. You can turn it off by heading to that same settings location.
