Super Mario World theme park opening delayed

The opening of Universal Studios Japan’s Super Mario World theme park will be delayed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Universal has announced.

Universal Studios Japan was reopened back on 8 June, but in a limited capacity — only local visitors from Japan’s Kansai region can attend, while numbers of allowed guests have been cut in half.

Universal has postponed the Super Mario World theme park as it anticipates high demand from visitors, a report from NHK World Japan states.

Super Mario World was scheduled to open in mid-July 2020; a new date was not detailed. A Super Mario World theme park is also being constructed in Orlando, Florida and is targetting a 2023 opening date.
