Summer Game Fest was supposed to have a lone woman on stage

... but plans fell through.

Summer Game Fest host Geoff Keighley has spoken out after it was noted that the 2023 event didn’t feature a single woman on stage, saying that one woman was due to appear.

Speaking to the criticism with the fine folks at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), Keighley said a lack of diversity had been “a fair flag” to fly.

He continued on to say that Melanie Liburd, the actor portraying the recently announced second protagonist in Alan Wake 2, was scheduled to appear on-stage but couldn’t attend in the end due to a scheduling conflict.

“I think generally we do a pretty good job with diversity in our shows. That was something that’s a fair flag,” Keighley said. “We also want to be authentic to the games that are being presented on the show and the developers that are making them. So yeah, I think we’re conscious of it.”

Liburd will star in Alan Wake 2 as FBI agent Saga Anderson.

Summer Game Fest will return in 2024.
