Stray Gods Orpheus DLC stars Star Trek Discovery’s Anthony Rapp

Huzzah!

Stray Gods Orpheus was today announced, a DLC for Stray Gods The Roleplaying Musical that will feature Star Trek Discovery‘s Anthony Rapp as its lead.

Original story [10 May 2024]: “In Stray Gods Orpheus, play as Orpheus in this brand new story for Stray Gods The Roleplaying Musical,” developer Summerfall Studios said in a press release. “Orpheus’ story is arguably finished – until Hermes brings him back to the world of the living. With their help, players will guide Orpheus through the depths of mortal decision making – who to date, what to hope for, what instrument to rock out on.”

Rapp will feature as Orpheus, accompanied by Erika Ishii (Worlds Beyond Number, Dimension 20). The DLC will offer up 6 new songs “where each decision changes the song and the story”.

The DLC is composed by Austin Wintory, with lyrics by Simon Hall (Tripod), Montaigne (Jess Cerro) and new addition Tom Cardy (Red Flags, Artificial Intelligence).

We weren’t sold on Stray Gods but adored Rapp’s performance, so hopefully we find more to enjoy with this DLC.

At the time, we said “Rapp absolutely [nailed] his sections and [showed] all-important range as both a singer and actor”, while ultimately deciding “Stray Gods is truly a mixed bag, full of strong actors, average singers, clever storytelling and weak songs” in our review.

Update [21 June 2024]: Originally planned for a release on PC first, followed “soon” after on consoles, Orpheus will now head to all available platforms on 27 June.

Stray Gods The Roleplaying Musical is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Switch. Orpheus becomes available on all those platforms from 27 June.
