Valve will no longer restore items lost to scams on Steam

Steam has advised of an amendment to its scams policy, and as such, lost items won’t be restored.

Valve said the change was made because restoring items lost in scams — such as Team Fortress 2 hats or weapons — devalues those in the possession of other users.

“Our community assigns an item a value that is at least partially determined by that item’s scarcity,” Valve advised. “If more copies of the item are added to the economy through inventory rollbacks, the value of every other instance of that item would be reduced.”

So, how can you be sure your items are safe? Simple. “All trade scams can be avoided,” Valve asserted.
