Started before update 1.000.002? You'll have problems.
A Star Wars Outlaws PS5 bug will cause problems with early access players who’ve started before update 1.000.002 has launched, Ubisoft has advised.
“To best experience the Outer Rim, we rolled out… maintenance to make sure everyone is playing the latest version of the game,” Ubisoft wrote in an email to some impacted players.
“As one of the players affected who had access to an older version of the game, we are aware you might be encountering some issues after this recent patch,” Ubisoft continued.
The only solution, sadly, appears to be starting the game from scratch.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused… Once you’ve confirmed you have the latest version, please start a new save to fully enjoy Star Wars Outlaws as our team intended. If you continue on a prior save you will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers.”
The big problem with this all is that those who’ve purchased Outlaws’ Gold or Ultimate editions — priced at $159.95 AUD and $185.95 AUD accordingly — paid for three days of early access and, consequently, may have paid extra to run into this problem.
“I just got this email this morning, wish I knew that [before] I played 5 hours last night,” wrote one Reddit user in response to the situation. “Honestly this game is testing my patience.”
It’s unclear how or if Ubisoft will compensate players for their time. It’s also unclear if Ubisoft has emailed every single player impacted — I’ve personally started playing a copy late last week on PS5 but didn’t receive anything — so if you’ve started early, it’s likely safer just to restart.
The bugs described by Ubisoft didn’t impact Matt’s playthrough of Outlaws for our recent review. In it, Matt said, “I had a great time with Kay Vess and crew.
“The story has all the heel-turns, reveals and double-crosses you could hope for from a heist story, and even a few surprise twists you won’t see coming,” he continued. “Seeing the Star Wars world from a more boots-on-the-ground perspective also casts it in a very different light – an AT-ST is a much more intimidating thing to see when you don’t have access to midichlorians.”
Update [30 August]: Ubisoft will offer an in-game cosmetic and currency for those impacted by the bug.
In a new email, Ubisoft said it will provide a cosmetic for Kay’s starship the Trailblazer alongside 100 Ubisoft Connect credits, which are used to unlock further in-game rewards.
“We fully acknowledge that asking you to start a new game is not the best experience, especially during the Early Access period, and for that we apologise,” Ubisoft’s email stated.
Star Wars Outlaws heads to Windows PC via Ubisoft Connect, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5 on 30 August. Early access started yesterday, 27 August.
