Star Trek Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks crossover announced

And will take place inside Strange New Worlds Season 2.

Star Trek Strange New WorldsLower Decks crossover was announced over this weekend, planned for Season 2 of Strange New Worlds.

The announcement was made during a Strange New Worlds San Diego Comic-Con panel, in which lead Anson Mount was joined by Lower Decks‘ Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid.

Surprisingly, the crossover will feature use “both live-action and animation,” so it’s likely Newsome and Quaid’s Mariner and Boilmer, respectively, will remain in animated form accompanied by the actual real-life crew — or rather, real-life actors — of the Enterprise.

The episode in question, which has been teased by production for quite some time now, will be directed by none other than Captain Riker, Star Trek Picard‘s Jonathan Frakes. The director will also appear, of course, as a main cast member of Star Trek Picard Season 3.

We’ll have more on the crossover when it’s available. Star Trek Lower Decks Season 3 kicks off in August and streams in Australia on Prime Video; a release date for Strange New Worlds Season 2 has not yet been detailed, though Season 1 is available locally on Paramount+.
