Star Trek Starfleet Academy adds Paul Giamatti to its cast

Giamatti joins Holly Hunter in a star-studded affair.

Star Trek Starfleet Academy has cast the Oscar-nominated Paul Giamatti as its primary villain, Paramount today announced. Giamatti joins the previously announced Holly Hunter, making Starfleet Academy kind of a big deal.

“Sometimes you’re lucky enough to discover that one of the greatest actors alive is also a huge Star Trek fan, and meeting Paul was one of those miraculous moments for us,” said executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau. “The sheer delight with which he dove in on Starfleet Academy is only surpassed by the gratitude we feel about him joining our incredible cast.”

Giamatti has previously expressed interest in playing a Klingon in the past, so maybe he’ll have his wish fulfilled.

Star Trek Starfleet Academy is positioned for a teenage audience and is set in Star Trek Discovery‘s 32nd century. We’ll have more on the upcoming show as it develops.
