Star Trek Section 31 teaser trailer shows off its unique tone

And by "unique", we mean "Suicide Squad tryhard".

The first Star Trek Section 31 teaser trailer has been released, and has fans talking about how different it looks to other Star Trek series and films.

Largely, that talking point is a bad thing.

“Wow, every last drop of cautious optimism I had just immediately evaporated,” wrote one user on Reddit in response to the trailer, which featured quick cuts, highly stylised titles, and a backing soundtrack of Beyonce’s ‘Formation’. “What in the actual hell was that?”

“[T]he editing of the trailer was atrocious with the music choice and jump cuts to incoherent action scenes with heavy handed voiceovers,” added another. ” That said, it looked very generic sci fi. As close to Star Wars as anything.”

“I don’t think this direct to streaming movie is going to do well in general, but I had hope for a fun romp with some bad guys doing morally grey things for the greater good. Ala Peacemaker,” that commenter continued. “But, the Star Trek universe never really was about that. The idea of Section 31 is more fun than actually seeing it.”

“This trailer reminds me of every meathead who stuffed me in a locker in high school, except now they’re also hijacking my hobbies,” reads a comment found on the teaser itself.

Star Trek Section 31 is a direct to Paramount+ film “coming soon”. We’ll update you as we learn more.
