Star Trek Online players gather at Vulcan to honour Leonard Nimoy ahead of in-game memorial

Ahead of an actual, in-game memorial to Star Trek’s original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, players of Star Trek Online gathered on the game’s planet Vulcan to honour the recently deceased actor.

Nimoy passed away in Los Angeles on the weekend due to end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.

According to barnacle999 on reddit, 1,000 total Star Trek Online players gathered around a fountain on Vulcan to pay tribute to Nimoy.

Meanwhile, the game’s Lead Producer, Stephen Ricossa, took to the game’s official forums to declare a permanent memorial will be added to the game on 5 March, during the game’s weekly maintenance cycle.

“In this way, we hope to keep his memory as alive in our game as he is in all of our hearts,” Ricossa wrote.

As I massive fan, I have this to add: Mr. Nimoy, thank you for touching my heart and expanding my mind as I grew up with Star Trek. You have been, and shall always be, my friend.
