Star Trek Online adds Obena-class as latest lootbox gamble

Yay?

Star Trek Online has added the Excelsior-like Obena-class as its latest lootbox gamble.

Available on PC today, and on consoles from 15 January 2024, the Obena-class first appeared as the U.S.S. Archimedes inside Star Trek Lower Decks. It has a distinctively larger neck than the Excelsior-class alongside Sovereign-like nacelles.

You can check the ship out below.

As you’d expect, Star Trek Online fans weren’t pleased with yet another ship being offered as a lootbox rather than a direct purchase or earn.

“What was the last STAR TREK CANON FRIENDLY ship that wasn’t a lockbox ship?” one asked on Reddit.

“Honestly if the pretty space ships weren’t whale bait I’d probably still play from time to time,” wrote another. “But I played enough to see that if i wanted to get the cool shit I wanted I was going to have to grind for years (literally) and never have a guarantee of certain things dropping from the loot boxes. So I walked away.”

Star Trek Online is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A free T6 Ferengi Marauder is currently on offer to players.
