Star Trek Lower Decks cast detailed alongside first looks at crew, ship

The Star Trek Lower Decks cast was today detailed alongside a first look at characters and the ship they serve upon, the U.S.S. Cerritos.

The Cerritos is a California Class starship under the command of Captain Carol Freeman, voiced by Dawnn Lewis. Her senior staff also includes Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell), Lieutenant Shaxs (Fred Tatasciore) and Doctor T’Ana (Gilian Vigman). As Star Trek fans would gleam from the show’s title, however, this animated series isn’t about them — it’s about lower-ranking crew far removed from active bridge duty.

Lower Decks will star — from left to right, above — Noel Wells as medical officer Ensign Tendi, Eugene Cordero as cyborg early adopter engineer Ensign Rutherford, Tawny Newsome as bat’leth-wielding Ensign Mariner and Jack Quaid as “pearl clutching” Ensign Boimler.

In addition to the main cast, we were also treated to an image of the Cerritos’ holodeck… which looks like a holodeck, really. According to Executive Producer, Mike McMahan, the holodeck will “break all the time” in true Star Trek fashion.

Lower Decks is an animated Star Trek series that’s set at the same time as Star Trek: Nemesis (so Star Trek: Voyager and its crew are relatively still active). It’s scheduled for a 2020 release on CBS All Access. It’s unclear how Aussies will watch it, but Star Trek: Discovery currently airs on Netflix and the upcoming Star Trek: Picard will air on Amazon Prime Video.
