Star Trek Kobayashi Maru in-browser game offers a no-win scenario

With prizes for those who can beat it!

Star Trek Kobayashi Maru is a new in-browser game that will let wannabe Starfleet captains test their merit in the famous no-win scenario. Better yet, those who manage to do that could walk away with some nifty prizes!

Developed by Star Trek Fleet Command‘s Scopely, the title appears to be set in the Kelvin universe (ie Chris Pine as Captain Kirk) and will offer up three prizes for the first three captains to beat the challenge. As Star Trek fans might expect, that’s going to prove to be rather difficult.

In Star Trek lore, the Kobayashi Maru is both the name of a starship and a Starfleet Academy cadet test designed to expose crew to a scenario that cannot be beaten. The first person to do so was none other than James T. Kirk — though as he confessed, he had to cheat to do so.

Scopely won’t be allowing players the opportunity to hack the system like Kirk did in order to win; instead, you’ll just have to play through the encounter and hope you’re the one to overcome the 1:10,000 odds.
