Splatoon: Playable demo this weekend, details of free DLC

A new Nintendo Direct early this morning has provided further details of the upcoming Wii U shooter Splatoon.

A ton of free DLC is planned for the title, which releases at the end of the month, including new weapons, modes and gear.

A major update is planned in August, adding another mode, more gear and more matchmaking options for four-player games.

In Nintendo style, Splatfests will bring back the functionality from the Wii’s Everybody Votes Channel, asking gamers if they prefer cats or dogs and the like. If a gamer plays for the team associated to cats, and that team wins, the team will walk away with in-game rare rewards.

Moreover, the game will get a demo over this weekend, running from 9 May at 1.00 – 2.00 pm AEST, then from 9.00 – 10.00 pm AEST and finally 10 May from 5.00 – 6.00 am AEST. Those that download the demo will also receive 10% off the game on the eShop at launch.

We’ll have the full Nintendo Direct for you soon.

Splatoon launches on Wii U from 29 May.
