SMITE heads to PS4; cross-platform play possible, but isn’t happening

Hi-Rez Studios has anounced that the free-to-play SMITE will soon head to PS4.

The title is currently available in closed alpha on PS4, playable by  a small number of “dedicated” players, the developer also confirmed. A closed beta is expected next month. Those interested in joining that can register here for the chance to play.

In a FAQ prepared for the PS4 release, Hi-Rez acknowledged that while cross-platform play is possible across Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One, fans shouldn’t expect it.

“While technically possible, it’s not in our current plans,” the developer said.

SMITE is currently available on Windows PC and Xbox One. Like other platforms, the PS4 will offer a paid “Founder’s Pack” with extra goodies at launch.
