Skate 4 will be a free-to-play live service game

Yay?

Skate 4 will be a free-to-play, live service title, EA and Full Circle have confirmed.

“We are taking inspiration from games like Apex Legends or other popular titles that are free-to-play, where spending money is totally optional, and it’s mostly about cosmetics and convenience,” EA’s Isabelle Mocquard said, speaking of the decision.

Developer Full Circle said it plans to support Skate 4 — otherwise known as just skate. — for years to come.

“We’re in this for the long haul. That means we’re not an iterative title,” said Full Circle’s Chris ‘Cuz’ Parry said.

“There won’t be a Skate 5 through 10,” he continued. “We won’t be pumping them out all the time.”

The news comes at the same time a leaked build of the game has made its way to the internet. As you’d expect, EA has asked players to avoid the build.

“We’re aware of an earlier version of the game that has been distributed without our authorization. This build is from September 2021 and was never intended for external use,” EA said in a statement.
