SAG-AFTRA members vote to authorise video game strike

Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Actors union SAG-AFTRA members have voted in favour in expanding its ongoing Hollywood strike to include the video games industry.

A total of 34,687 ballots were cast, with 98.32% of votes in favour of the strike authorisation covering the Interactive Media Agreement that covers union members’ working in video games.

As we’ve previously reported, specific game companies targeted by SAG-AFTRA include the likes of Activision Blizzard, Disney, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Insomniac Games, Take-Two and Warner Bros.

“It’s time for the video game companies to stop playing games and get serious about reaching an agreement on this contract,” said SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher.

“The result of this vote shows our membership understands the existential nature of these negotiations, and that the time is now for these companies – which are making billions of dollars and paying their CEOs lavishly – to give our performers an agreement that keeps performing in video games as a viable career.”

We’ll keep you informed as the situation progresses. A bargaining session between the industry and SAG-AFTRA is scheduled for this week.
