YouTube prepares subscription service for ad-free video viewing

The Verge reports that YouTube is preparing to introduce a paid monthly subscription option that would allow those who pay to watch video ad-free.

YouTube will share revenue with YouTube partners, otherwise known as video makers, according to an email sent to said partners. YouTube called the scheme a “new source of revenue that will supplement your fast growing advertising revenue,” according to the email.

The Verge reports that YouTube will charge “around $10 a month” for the subscription, and that 55% of subscription revenue will go to partners.
