Metal Gear Solid V’s PvP mode allegedly rife with microtransactions

As part of their review of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Gamespot has shed light on a microtransaction-laden PvP portion of the game.

Separate from Metal Gear OnlineThe Phantom Pain has PvP within its Mother Base. The PvP is similar to that found in Watch_Dogs; players are encouraged to test their friends’ bases. Gamers, in turn, are encouraged to use a unit of currency called MB Coins to purchase land and defences.

From what Gamespot can ascertain, there is no other way to buy MB Coins than with real-world cash.

Konami, allegedly running strict review program structures for the game according to RockPaperShotgun, made comment on MB Points afterward.

“[Mother Base PVP] will be fully accessible at launch and the micro-transaction layer to that specific feature in the game primarily acts as an accelerator,” the publisher stated.

Though Stevivor can confirm there was a Sydney-based “review event” for The Phantom Pain, we’ve yet to receive code to play upon. Moreover, we’re investigating a report that either Konami or Kojima Productions have requested review discs not be sent to media outlets until after the game launches.
