Rooster Teeth layoffs mean around 50 staff are now unemployed

A wave of Rooster Teeth layoffs have impacted 13% of the company’s employees, or approximately 50 people, Variety today reports. The action marks the first time the media company has made such drastic cutbacks to its workforce.

“As we looked ahead at all of our upcoming opportunities and challenges, we had to make some difficult decisions about how we are organized,” Rooster Teeth co-founder and CEO Matt Hullum wrote in a memo to staff, adding that the layoffs weren’t “reflective of anyone’s individual performance, and we’re thankful for all that our former colleagues have contributed.”

Rooster Teeth confirmed that layoffs impacted employees in areas including content production, advertising, distribution and e-commerce, though events staff were spared. Rooster Teeth declined to confirm whether senior-level executives were impacted.

Rooster Teeth was founded in 2003 and has changed hands numerous times since 2014, first being acquired by Fullscreen, which was then absorbed into Otter Media, and finally bought out by AT&T/WarnerMedia.

Our best wishes to those impacted by the layoffs.
