Return to Monkey Island coming from Ron Gilbert in 2022

This isn't an April Fools' joke!

Return to Monkey Island isn’t a potential April Fools’ joke but a real thing, developed by Ron Gilbert’s Terrible Toybox, published by Devolver Digital and LucasFilm and coming in 2022.

The title, first announced in a cryptic 1 April post by Gilbert on his long-running blog, was today confirmed as a legitimate sequel to The Secret of Monkey Island and The Secret of Monkey Island 2 LeChuck’s Revenge.

“For 18 years the Grumpy Gamer blog has been April Fools’ Day free because it’s a stupid tradition,” Gilbert wrote back at the start of the month. “So, to mix things up a little I’m taking this opportunity to announce I’ve decided to make another Monkey Island.”

Return to Monkey Island will not only feature Gilbert, but fellow co-creator Dave Grossman. Moreover, Dominic Armato will return to reprise his character Guybrush Threepwood.

We’ll detail more of Return to Monkey Island as news becomes available.
