It’s Resident Evil Village and not Resident Evil 8, says Capcom

Resident Evil Village is just that and not Resident Evil 8, Capcom has recently asserted.

Speaking with Weekly Famitsu (via Kotaku), Producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano said that the title would skip a number altogether despite serving as a sequel to Resident Evil 7 — or in Capcom’s naming convention Resident Evil 7 Biohazard.

“You could call the actual Village another character in the game, and we did that because we would like players to understand that,” Capcom told Famitsu when asked why Village wasn’t called Resident Evil 8 or even Resident Evil 8 Village.

“There isn’t really an official abbreviation, but we’d just be happy if you remembered Village,” Capcom also provided when asked about potential abbreviations.

We’ll have more on Resident Evil Village when it’s made available. The title heads to Windows PC, Xbox Series X and PS5 in 2021. The title was officially announced last month.
