And it's convoluted as all hell.
Resident Evil Requiem is damn good — our review can attest to that — but it also has a ridiculous puzzle called “The Final Puzzle” that we knew would be ridiculous. And, as it turns out, it is. The puzzle has finally been cracked, and in the most humourous of ways.
First, Pokemon YouTuber Gengar Collects “cracked” the puzzle by accident, grabbing a doll without fully understanding how, and then bringing it and the other half of a “Sweet Pair” to actually solve the puzzle.
Twitter’s SynthPotato then credited players Rantsycancy and Kyro as “the first people in the world to figure [the puzzle] out”, and over two playthroughs to boot, with steps as follows:
- In playthrough one, make it to the underground Workshop area and turn on the conveyor belt. Wait there 15 minutes. In the meat processor, don’t kill any zombies.
- Back in the Care Center proper, go back to the bathroom and flush one toilet exactly eight times.
- Proceed normally; after you get the helicopter key, you’ll see Marie’s Doll spawn at the staircase as you escape. Pick up the doll.
- In a second playthough, you’ll notice the doll is in your item box. Pick it up when it’s time to escape with Emily; before doing so, head back to the East Wing’s Sun/Star/Moon puzzle and enter in the combination:
So we know how to solve the final puzzle, and we sort of know the “why” as well. Maybe. It’s believed that the file called “Subject 170 Record” details the 15 minute thing — that’s estimated to be the time it would take to collect 524.3L of blood from the corpses on the conveyor belt. As for flushing eight times? Well, apparently the number 8 is smeared in blood on a bathroom stall in one of the game’s crime photos.
Convoluted as hell? Yes. Worth doing for all the CP that the completed challenge offers? Maybe. It’s not tied to an Achievement or Trophy, so complete if you’d like.
Resident Evil Requiem is out now on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch 2. Want more help? Check out our Mr Raccoon Guide here, or our larger Achievement, Trophy, and Challenge Guide here.
