"Sales have not reached Remedy’s internal targets."
Remedy has issued a “profit warning” over FBC Firebreak less than two weeks after a big update intended to bring in new players.
“FBC: Firebreak was launched on June 17th,” Remedy stated in an investor update. “In its 2025 half-year financial report, Remedy reported that FBC: Firebreak’s launch-phase consumer sales underperformed. After the launch, the company rapidly developed the game based on player feedback and released multiple updates.
“On September 29th, Remedy released the first Major Update titled Breakpoint for FBC: Firebreak, which brought significant changes to the game’s core experience. Despite improved player and sales metrics after the update, sales have not reached Remedy’s internal targets.”
“Remedy is recognizing a non-cash impairment of capitalized development costs and allocated purchased publishing and distribution rights related to FBC: Firebreak,” Remedy CEO Tero Virtala said as part of the profit warning. “While we balance future investments to the title, we continue developing and improving the game in line with our updated long-term sales forecast.”
We reviewed FBC Firebreak back in June, saying it was, “easy to start, sometimes difficult to understand, and challenging to master,” adding that it’s “nevertheless a fun little sideshow while we wait for Control 2 proper.” Admittedly, it’s too busy a time to have properly jumped into FBC Firebreak since its rework… something, sadly, it looks like many others have said as well.
FBC Firebreak is available on Windows PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5, also available on all tiers of Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. You can learn more about the late September update here.
