Real-life Mario Kart heads to Melbourne, Sydney in 2018 [UPDATE]

Update: Stevivor has been contacted by MariCAR over Mushroom Racing’s use of a MariCAR asset.

“All of the photo is about our service “MariCAR”,” an email to Stevivor reads.

“But we do not know Mushroom Racing and there is no relationship with them. So this article is wrong. They (and you) are not allowed to use the photos of our service “MariCAR”.”

We’ve updated the image accordingly — and have gone back to Mushroom Racing asking for further clarification. We’ve yet to receive a response.

Original story: Real-life Mario Kart racing is heading to Australia — Melbourne and Sydney, specifically — later this year, thanks to a company called Mushroom Racing.

“Real Life Mario Karting – Go Karting with a Twist will be headed to Sydney and Melbourne soon,” the company advised in a short press release. “A unique experience that combines your favourite characters, friends and new friends for a driving experience that will take you back in time.

“On the race day,  you’ll be able to pick your favourite character, drive courses dressed as them, and have the opportunity to collect stars to win prizes.”

Proper dates haven’t been disclosed, but wannabe racers can head here to sign up for more information.

Real-life karting is currently available in Japan via a company called MariCAR; it’s unknown if Aussies will get to race on the road like in Japan.

We’ve reached out to Mushroom Racing for more information and will report back as more is known.

Are you excited about the prospect of real-life Mario Kart here in Sydney? In the meantime, scratch that racing itch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch.
