Rainbow Six Siege next-gen release, cross-play is Ubisoft’s goal

Rainbow Six Siege will ideally be released on next-gen consoles and feature cross-play between current- and next-gen, Brand Director Alexandre Remy has said.

“We don’t want a sequel whatsoever,” Remy told the Daily Star. Instead, a next-gen release coupled with cross-play between all iterations of the release would be ideal.

“The reason behind this is we don’t want to segregate our community between the different platforms,” Remy explained. “In an ideal world tomorrow, we’d love players from every platform to be able to play together. We are approaching next-gen with the same spirit.”

Remy said Ubisoft Montreal is already trying to incorporate this strategy into its plans. “We’ve been asking how can we make the player base of Siege today be able to migrate — if they want to migrate, that is — but also make this cheaper [than buying a next-gen console and copy of the game] as much as possible or through backwards compatibility.”

For now, Rainbow Six: Siege is available on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
