Rail strike impacting PAX 2023 has been called off

Rejoice!

Take a relaxing breath, players — the rail strike that was set to impact the first day of PAX AUS 2023 has been called off.

As reported by The Age, a planned Friday rail strike would have impacted those trying to get to the convention between the hours of 10.00 am and 2.00 pm. Thankfully, worrying about how you’d get into the city is now a thing of the past.

The Age states that a new agreement between Metro Trains and the Rail, Tram and Bus Union will see a 17 per cent pay increase over four years — or 4 per cent annually plus a 1 per cent Metro Tunnel “facilitation payment” — to union members, applicable from when Melbourne’s new underground rail line opens in 2025.

“This is a great outcome for members,” said union secretary Vik Sharma said in a statement. “Our union will always fight to deliver the best outcomes for members. If that involves the need to stop trams or trains we won’t hesitate.”

Sharma’s not wrong.

PAX AUS 2023 will be held over 6-8 October 2023 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
