PSA: Watch out, Assassin’s Creed Shadows may be out in the wild a month early

Look out for spoilers!

Watch out, players — if you’re trying to avoid Assassin’s Creed Shadows spoilers, it appears as if the game has broken street date with a month to go before its proper release.

Slight (alleged) spoilers lie ahead.

First, Assassin’s Creed YouTuber The Hidden One stated that he knows of someone playing the full PS5 version of the title “because the PlayStation Store made a mistake”. The YouTuber stated that this full version of the game features the return of Animus anomalies as part of gameplay, something that has yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft.

“In the video [the friend with early access] showed me, the player encounters something Animus in the world,” the YouTuber stated. “A pop up appeared that read: ‘Animus systems breached. Stabilise anomalies and gain data fragments to advance your active strand’.”

The Hidden One’s friend isn’t the only one playing early, as a post on Reddit seems to back up claims. The statement suggests that physical copies of Shadows on PS5 are also being sold far ahead of its release date.

“It’s a much older build with none of the improvements added in from the delays,” reads the post.

There doesn’t appear to be any gameplay footage or capture associated with these claims as yet, so they could be false. That, or the people playing mightn’t be uploading anything (yet). Regardless, if you want to go in fresh, be aware (and start filtering your social media!).

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled for a 20 March 2025 release on Windows PC via Steam, Ubisoft Connect, and Epic Games Store alongside Mac, Amazon Luna, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. We previewed the title here.
