Project CARS shut down by EA

EA's racing games need to "evolve", it says.

Project CARS has been shut down by EA, the publisher has today confirmed.

Speaking with Games Industry, EA said that Project CARS had been scrapped as it needed to “prioritize our focus in areas where we believe we have the strongest opportunity to create experiences that fans will love.”

“With shifting fan expectations, we recognize the need to evolve our games beyond pure play,” EA continued.

EA continued on to say that Slightly Mad Studios developers still working on the Project CARS franchise would be shifted to other titles including those in the Need for Speed franchise.

Slightly Mad Studios took to Twitter in August of this year to confirm that both Project CARS and Project CARS 3 would be “delisted from sale in the coming months”. Both titles are now unavailable for purchase.

Project CARS 3 is still available for sale; we reviewed it here.
