Now this is podracing!
The price of a PS4 version of 2002’s Star Wars Racer Revenge has skyrocketed after reports its physical disc makes it possible to jailbreak a PS5.
Modern consoles are seemingly immune to jailbreaking attempts — any security flaws can generally be patched out with updates — but hackers suggest that the Racer Revenge disc can inject code that can’t be dealt with in the same way via an upcoming version 12.0 PS5 jailbreak. The trouble is, Racer Revenge‘s physical disc was produced by Limited Run Games; true to the company’s name, only 8,500 physical discs were produced, and won’t be reproduced.
When it comes to supply versus demand, the latter is extremely high at the moment. As such, copies of the disc are being sold for ridiculous prices. Over on eBay, one listing is up for a “Buy It Now” price of $1,047.98 AUD.
Resell Calendar has written up an explanation of the jailbreak alongside its speculation on how Racer Revenge‘s pricing will fluctuate over the next few weeks. It’s well worth a read.
If you’ve got a disc, it’s decision time: keep or sell? And if you want to obtain a copy of Racer Revenge for some reason, remember that digital copies of the game cannot be used in the same manner as physical discs.
