Pokemon Sword & Shield release date, Dynamax mode & more detailed

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield was detailed by Nintendo late last night, confirming its release date alongside news of new mechanics.

Dynamax

Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves from previous versions of the franchise seem to have influenced the new Dynamax mechanic, where your Pokemon will grow to gigantic proportions and boast incredible strength. While in Dynamax mode, your moves will be maxed, making them stronger and also adding the possibility for additional effects.

The Dynamax mode is limited to three turns, so strategise accordingly.

Wild Areas and Max Raids

New Wild Areas will give Trainers the chance to explore in a large areas of space, with dynamic weather that seems to impact the types of Pokemon that will appear.

Moreover, four players can team up to battle a Dynamax Pokemon in what’s being called a Max Raid Battle. While you’re limited to three turns with Dynamax, your AI Max Raid Battle opponent will remain a giant for the duration of the battle. Moreover, only one of your four-player team will be able to use Dynamax at a given time.

New Legendary Pokemon

New Legendary Pokemon feature in for form of Zacian (above, left) and Zamazenta (above, right). Based on a wolf/dog, one resembles a Sword while the other a shield.

“Zacian’s attacks are so graceful that its movements captivate opponents,” Nintendo said in a press release. “Holding what appears to be a sword in its mouth, Zacian’s shining blade can cut through anything.

“With majestic movements and what appears to be a shield covering its body, Zamazenta can turn back any attack and overwhelm any opponents that dare face it.”

Release date

Pokemon Sword and Shield will be available on Nintendo Switch from 15 November, the presentation revealed. Not long to wait, eh?
