Pokemon Go dev making Harry Potter AR game

Update: Niantic has taken to its blog to confirm the game. A release date was not detailed.

Original story: Pokemon Go developer Niantic Labs is reportedly working on a similar Harry Potter game subtitled Wizards Unite.

Tech Crunch has made the report, alleging that Niantic will collaborate with Warner Bros.’ Portkey Games on the augmented reality title. It’s said the game will release in 2018.

If true, it’s hardly surprising — Niantic started the augmented reality craze with Ingress before using what it had learned on Pokemon Go. Those lessons could easily be applied to the Harry Potter universe.

Unsurprisingly, nether Niantic nor Warner Bros. have commented on the report. We’ll keep you in the loop as more is known about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.

Pokemon Go is available now on iOS and Android devices.
