A massive Pokemon data breach has exposed the franchise’s beta designs, source codes, and plans for future titles.
Game Freak was made aware of the data breach, which actually took place back in August 2023, and issued a statement about it approximately three days before information from the breach began to surface on the internet.
Leaked information includes the source code for titles such as Pokémon HeartGold and Pokémon SoulSilver, alongside codenames for upcoming Switch 2 games.
Personal information pertaining to over 2,600 Game Freak employees was also scraped during the attack, the developer confirmed.
“Due to unauthorized access to our servers in August 2023, personal information on our employees was leaked,” reads a translated statement. “We apologize to those affected.”
Game Freak will contact each impacted employee, and also confirmed it has “rebuilt and reinspected the servers, and will ensure that this incident does not occur again through further improvements to our security measures.”
