PayPal use on Steam currently supports six currencies only

And AUD is one of them.

Valve has recently confirmed that PayPal use on Steam is currently limited to six currencies, meaning those in other regions using other currencies cannot use the payment platform to purchase games.

“In early July 2025, PayPal notified Valve that their acquiring bank for payment transactions in certain currencies was immediately terminating the processing of any transactions related to Steam,” an update to a Steam purchasing FAQ reads. “This affects Steam purchases using PayPal in currencies other than EUR, CAD, GBP, JPY, AUD and USD.

“We hope to offer PayPal as an option for these currencies in the future but the timeline is uncertain. We are also evaluating adding additional payment methods on Steam for the customers affected by this,” the update continued.

In the meantime, Valve advises customers use a different payment method at checkout if PayPal cannot be used.

The timing of this situation could be coincidence, or could be tied to the removal and delisting of NSFW games from Steam (and also itch.io) as a result from lobbying by Australian group Collective Shout.

Vile Exhumed was one game with adult themes impacted by the removal of games on Steam, though not pornographic themes as initially targeted by Collective Shout.

“There are a lot of intense visuals in VILE: Exhumed, but there is no uncensored nudity, no depictions of sex acts, and no pornography present at all  – which is one of the justifications bad actors are using right now to censor games,” said developer Cara Cadaver on their game’s removal from the platform.
