Payday 3 has an always-online requirement

Oh, boo.

Heist shooter Payday 3 will have an always-online requirement, much to the chagrin of franchise fans.

The news came about in a recent livestream, where Starbreeze’s Almir Listo made the confirmation.

When asked if the game will have an offline mode, Listo said, “No. You will be able to play it by yourself, but I do believe you will have to have a connection in order to play because it’s made in the Unreal Engine, it’s using cross-progression, [and] cross-play. I do believe we need you to be online.”

Perhaps needless to say, fans aren’t thrilled.

“First they keep making DLC for Payday 2 like they’re competing against their own game, then they screw up the game with EGS stuff and now this,” said one player over on Reddit.

“I’ve already been sorta skeptical of Payday 3 for a while but now that this confirms that solo players are getting shafted and there’s essentially no mod support for this game I’m gonna stick with Payday 2,” the player continued. “PD2 will live forever cuz of mods, PD3 will live for a few months until Starbreeze goes out of business for how badly they’re screwing over this game.”

What do you make of the requirement? Sound off in the comments area, below.

Expect Payday 3 on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5; it’ll also head to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
