Payday 3 drops Denuvo ahead of release later this month

Payday 3 will drop Denuvo, a controversial digital rights management (DRM) system on PC, ahead of the game’s release on 21 September.

“We want to inform you that Denuvo is no longer in PAYDAY 3,” Starbreeze said in a matter-of-fact statement over on Steam. “We look forward to seeing you in New York City!”

Denuvo is a piece of anti-cheat and anti-piracy software that helps to lock down instances of piracy of PC games; the trouble is, it is generally believe to impact a game’s performance. Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada once blamed Denuvo for Tekken 7‘s poor performance on PC.

Since it’s not a problem of graphics & CPU processing, it will not solve even if changing PC setting (problem with encryption program),” Harada said referencing Denuvo upon that title’s release in 2018.

Expect Payday 3 from 21 September on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PS5; it’ll also be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
